Dairy Forum Covers Fly Control, Nutrition, Policy

Missouri Dairy Forum offers educational program Jan. 27-28 in Springfield.

Fly control, dairy nutrition and policy will be the lead topics at the upcoming Missouri Dairy Forum and Trade Show Jan. 27-28 at the University Plaza Hotel in Springfield.

"This is an excellent opportunity for dairy farmers to get together and hear some timely issues affecting their everyday operations," says Larry Purdom, president, Missouri Dairy Association (MDA) president from Purdy.

The Dairy Forum kicks off with registration and the opening of the trade show at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 27 followed by the educational program topics starting at 9:30. The Friday morning speakers include:

• Dennis Meyer, Central Life Sciences, will discuss "Controlling Flies on the Dairy"

• Geoff Zanton, Novus International, covering "The Basics of Mineral Nutrition"

• Todd Bilby, Texas A&M System, with "Integration of Synchronization Programs and Estrous Detection" sponsored by Merck Animal Health.

The guest speaker for Friday's luncheon will be Gene Goenner of Alltech who will speak on "A Practical Look at Feeds and Feeding for Optimal Rumen Performance."

After Friday's luncheon, Randy Mooney, chairman of the National Milk Producers Federation, speaks on "Dairy in the 2012 Farm Bill."

The forum continues Friday afternoon with MDA's 27th annual Meeting and committee meetings of the Missouri Holstein Association and Missouri Guernsey Breeders Association.

The trade show concludes at 5 p.m. and reopens Saturday morning at 7 a.m. 

Saturday's program features the annual meetings of the Missouri Guernsey Breeders Association, Missouri Holstein Association, Missouri Brown Swiss Association and a board meeting of the Missouri Jersey Cattle Club.

The trade show closes at noon on Saturday followed by a luncheon and fun auction.  After lunch, the Missouri Holstein Association annual meeting continues along with the Missouri Holstein Junior Association.


Registration is free but luncheon reservations are required for Friday and Saturday and may be made by emailing [email protected]  or calling 636-519-9300. Sleeping room reservations may be made by calling the University Plaza Hotel directly at 417-864-7333 and ask for the Missouri Dairy Forum room block.
